Relationships are complicated. We bring our entire lifetime of experiences into relationships. So do our partners. Often our personal issues collide with the issues our partner may have. When this happens we grow apart, argue, lose trust, and end up hurting each other. We often have defenses that we aren’t fully aware of that protect us while we are feeling emotionally vulnerable in relationships, and these defenses often end up triggering our partner’s defenses creating a cycle of escalation. We will work to change our perspectives, modify damaging behaviors, end emotional avoidance, reinforce our strengths, and improve communication.
